Waiting Game

May 2, 2007, 8:33 am

Wednesday, May 2 5:34 pm - The waiting game continues to find the results of the biopsy done last Friday. The latest update this afternoon is that the Neuropathologist is back and working on the biopsy, however he needs to send the slides/samples out for more stains. This means the results may come in tomorrow, or they could slip another day to Friday.

In the meantime we are actively consulting with Neurologists around the country to make contingency plans for two scenarios:

1. If we don't get a conclusive diagnosis with this biopsy we may ask to be referred to another center, for a second biopsy. We are doing research on which center might be best for that.

2. If we get a worse case scenario, (some type of malignancy or glioma tumor) we may ask to be referred to a center that specializes in that type of treatment. Glioma would be the worst of the worst, as we understand it be almost certainly fatal.

Charity is showing improvement in her walking coordination. Her dizziness has improved this afternoon. She has been showered in cards, greetings and love from people all over, even overseas.

So, we wait, pray and wait for the results to come in.

Lets do more than wait

May 2, 2007, 1:41 am

Wednesday, May 2 10:42am - Charity had several dizzy spells during the night, and she continues to have them during the day. Otherwise her condition seems to be quite stable.

It was a restless sleep for me last night. I lay half awake, half asleep as my mind mulled over her situation. Something just didn't seem right.

1. The team here originally wanted to run the course of all the tests and exams before attempting the delicate brain biopsy.

2. Last Thursday they made a decision to move the biopsy up to Friday. They just sensed the need to find out as soon as possible what was wrong with Charity.

3. They hoped to have pre-liminary results by Saturday and maybe full results by Monday.

4. Now, the word is that the neuropathologist is out of town and won't be able to read the biopsy until Wednesday or Thursday.

5. Our gnawing quesion is, why does everything hing on a dr. who is out of town? Don't they have qualified pathologists on staff, other than one person? If not why don't they have this referred somewhere else? Why all the urgency Thursday and Friday when results couldn't have been had anyway for a week?

6. We hope to ask those quesitons today.

7. We have begun some outside consulting to help advise us that our current strategy is going the right direction.

We continue to rest in the sovereign hand of the Lord, even though we pass moments of lots of tears, fear along with normal conversation, prayer, reading, playing games.
